Week and weekend update

Hi! I've been silent for quite a while (don't remember last time I posted). I guess the reason has been that I've started going to the office right after working out and I have to blame it on Kip that was always putting time pressure on me (he also had to go to his teaching training).

So Kip and I are back running together. Despite the fact that we've been busy lately (especially him), we've gone running almost every day of the week. We have made 2miles our standard running distance, at an average pace of 9'10''. I can't really believe it as I write. Anyway, the first times I ran the two miles with Kip were kind of painful, because twice I had been running in a bad mood so I didn't feel motivated enough to make it to the end. I sucked and I stopped before completing the two miles. But that was just two days. Then I started behaving again and I completed my miles, despite the fact that I had to run at a different pace than I was used to when I ran by myself. While I tended to slightly switch paces when I ran by myself, Kip enjoys keeping the same pace, which was harder for me. But I'm glad I could follow, yay!

For two days last week we just ran a mile. It was quite hot and we didn't have much time to spare. I'm happy with our times, because the second day we ran the mile we did it faster than the first day. The first day we ran the mile in about 8'45'' which is good, but the second day we ran it in 8'15'', my best mile ever. I remember I pushed hard in that one, so much that I could feel those needles in my skin that Kip had told me about a couple times.

After that day we didn't go running in two days (basically not wanting to get up at 5:30AM and Kip being busy). To make up for that I walked to school, which is always an adventure (very hot!)

Today we went running. It was great because it has been raining these last two days so the weather is again perfect (no sun and breeze -- this is paradise for the desert dwellers). So I asked Kip whether we could run the 3 miles. I wasn't sure we would make it but we did! It helped that we didn't see the sun at all (just briefly at the end of the second mile). I thought then that we wouldn't be able to make it with the sun but then it went away again and it was perfect. I didn't know whether I felt tired or not. I was in that state that you don't quite feel your body but you want to keep going. I was feeling pretty good, actually. I felt better during the third mile than I felt during the second mile. At the end of the mile we sped up a bit and beat a new record: 28'49''

Tomorrow... don't know... it's my first day teaching so we'll have to bring the distance down two 2 miles...

  2. Hey, P, thanks a lot for the encouragement. We feel good about our motivation (also because smoking really is part of history at this point), but we don't have plans to race at the moment. Maybe in like 6 months or so. I think Kip is still a bit traumatized about the last race :)
Btw, I can't wait to read about the tri with your mom! you guys look great in the pictures! So fit!
