5K

So, I took Monday and Tuesday off. I ran an easy 2 miles on Wednesday and then I did a 5K race last night. Based on my performance in the 5K in the tri, I was expecting to be able to do it in less than 23 minutes and maybe beat my all time record (22:15). I did both! I owe it all to strategy (and all those interval workouts probably help too). I was determined not to start out too fast and blow it. So, I started slow and sped up to a pace I knew I could maintain for 5K. And, as I went, I sped up without consciously trying to (my body just does it in a race). I didn't really start pushing hard until the last half mile or so. The last mile of a 5K is always hell, and this race was no exception. But, I took comfort in the fact that my suffering would soon be over. I finished strong - not sprinting but striding the last 200 yds or so. I passed a 20-something right at the finish line.

My time was 21:43. I am so pleased with myself. I feel stronger than ever and apparently, I am. I hope I can continue to run/tri/do sports for many decades to come. I'm a lot less annoyed about turning 40 now.

Oh, and I'm taking a 3 day weekend from working out (gotta give those almost-40-year-old joints a break!). I'll be back at it on Monday!

  2. Wow -- you should know that both Kip and I are super impressed -- well, Kip, again, thinks that he should choose a different sport to practice, hehe.

    You're my heroine!

  3. Thanks Ladies! Merche - tell Kip that if he keeps training, he should be able to beat me in about six months (being young, male and tall).

  4. I'll tell him! let's see whether this makes him train harder. Right now he's getting stressed out with work, the Spanish classes and the hours, so we're missing more training days :(

But I'll try to not lose the good habit!
