Thus, having only seven weeks to get my fat rump in shape, I've chosen to jump right in. Yesterday I rode in to Central Park and did a couple of laps with my DH/de facto cycling coach. We worked on climbing techniques and some spinning. Yikes have I got a long way to go! Managed to crank out 50k for my trouble but sheesh! last summer I was doing metric centuries without too much difficulty. Nothing like a little reality check, eh, folks? So, 50k on the bike yesterday, and a very painful 2 mile run today. I really do hate running especially when it feels like I have a small person sitting on my chest the whole way. DH was invaluable as he rode his bike alongside me with cold water bottles and lots of encouragement. Tomorrow will be a busy day, so I won't have time for much other than some yoga and some weights. I still have to find a pool to swim in- I'm thinking West Side Y (conveniently located but expensive!) or perhaps the aquatic center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (not quite as convenient but 1/15th the price of the Y). We shall see. Cheers for now!

Once again, Patsy is my inspiration.
Patsy's done it again. I don't know what it is, but after every one of her visits I find myself sweating a lot and getting in much better shape. Somehow, I'm doing what I truly never thought would happen-- training for a tri! I hate running! I can't swim! What am I doing? I have no idea, but the way Pats described her first tri experience was truly inspiring. As always, she impresses the hell out of me and manages to motivate me in a way none of my other friends can. Thanks for that, sweetie!

Saffy, dear, you neglected to mention that you did your 2 mile run in an insanely short time. 16 minutes! That's brilliant dear. Very fast. You might reconsider the speed because though impressive it might be too much too fast. That's wot she sed, heh, heh.
ReplyDeleteToo true- I'm horrible at pacing myself. I need to take it down a few notches, wot?
