Well, it's Friday. I succeeded in going 5 days (as of tonight) without junk food. I succeeded in not pigging out after the baby is asleep. I succeeded in losing a few pounds. And, most impressive of all, I succeeded in not buying poptarts today. Today is Friday and, six days out from grocery shopping, we're low on supplies (no bananas, no oatmeal, no leftovers, no bread) so I had nothing to bring with me for lunch. So, I approached the vending machine and instead of getting poptarts or snack cakes, I got some animal crackers. I know I'll still have a glycemic blast but at least no bad fats and a bit less sugar (and way fewer calories). Overall, I feel good. Less blobby. I have more energy. I'm not feeling run down, crappy and old like I did at the end of the chocolate/donut marathon weekend.
My big trick for avoiding the evening pig outs is cleaning after the baby goes to sleep. Last night, I scrubbed the kitchen floor before settling down to watch a dvd. It distracts me during my normal peak pig-out times, gives me a little exercise and a sense of accomplishment. And I feel so much better about life when the house is clean. This way, I don't spend the week thinking, oh God the bathroom is disgusting I'll have to clean it over the weekend. It gets cleaned during the week instead! Oh, it makes me feel so much better not to live in a pigsty. I can't describe the relief I feel. And so, it makes me less likely to seek fulfillment through candy.
